Eye Medicine I and Eye Medicine II aretwo related small still life paintingsbasically presenting an arrangementof medicine boxes in a low-key background.
I often take everyday objects like thisas the basis for a visual composition.Possibly somewhat akin to a Morandior Charlie Brady painting, the subjectmatter may not be central in terms ofmeaning or metaphor but can readilyelicit a personal or obvious response, calling to mind the viewers’ or artist’sown experience.
The contemplation of any still-lifepainting almost always seems toinvolve the subject of time, or timepassing. However, I am equally, if notmore, interested in the subject beingthe arrangement of the abstract elements(form, colour, light, space etc.), usingthem to attempt some kind of poeticexpression that might connect with theviewer. Perhaps the re-presentation isanother kind of medicine for the eyes.
